Cameron

“I can’t believe I let you talk me into this shit.”

She straightens the collar of my shirt. “Uh, big brother, I didn’t talk you into anything. You stepped into your own pile of doo when you were trying to be all macho around Andie. In fact, I tried getting you to give the ticket to one of your flavors of the month.”

I scowl as I tuck my shirt into the tight-ass jeans she has me in. “I thought you were trying to make Andie jealous.”

Kiki chuckles. “Ah Cam, I love you and would do anything for you, but turning one of my girlfriends into Cam-bait isn’t in my wheelhouse.”

I huff out a laugh. “You’re such a liar.”

She shrugs as Sarah steps in and puts something in my hair and starts mussing it up. “Want some makeup, Cam?”

“Do I need makeup?” Sarah and Kiki step back and survey their work. Sarah smiles. “Nah, I like you au natural. You have a nice deep tan. How is that anyway? It’s January.”

“Kiki, these jeans are way too tight.”

“Even better,” she appraises. “Maybe undo some more buttons on your shirt. Get that Rico Suave vibe going.”

“No.”

TJ walks in and starts a slow whistle. “Huminah huminah. Where are we off to, Cam Bam?”

I sigh and look up to the ceiling. “If you two so much as utter a single word to him about this I will never talk to you again.”

Kiki and Sarah stand silently as they smile at TJ.

“No!” He starts to laugh. “No way!”

“I don’t know what just happened or how weird it is that the three of you can communicate on another wavelength, but I hate you all.”

“Oh Cam, don’t be such a sourpuss, I think it’s cute.” TJ flings himself onto Sarah’s couch. “You’re super hot when you’re pouty though.”

“Going to the Romance Writers Sexiest Cover Model convention where women will be fondling all sorts of body parts does not sound like fun in my book, no pun intended.”

“SHUT. THE. FRONT. DOOR.” TJ slaps his leg and howls. “That’s not what crazy-eyes Kiki was conveying.” He wipes tears from his eyes. “Oh my god, this is too good. You have to let me tag along.”

“No! Absolutely not.”

Kiki digs around in her purse. “Crazy-eyes already has you covered. What are best friends for, Tammy Jean?” Kiki hands him an extra ticket.

“You have officially been written out of my will,” I grumble.

“The best part is, Matt signed Cam up to be in the silent auction where one lucky lady will get to go out on a date with him.”

“It’s for charity,” I snap as I put on a belt. “And for the record, I didn’t know what I was saying yes to.”

“Don’t worry, Cameo, I’ll make sure I win your date. How did you not know you were signing up to be Romance Cover Boy of the Year? Ooh, I think they have a yummy calendar too. Are you going to be in that?”

I look at him as panic starts to stir my blood.
